Swedish pair Wildbirds and Peacedrums will release their third album on August 23, via the Leaf Label.

Titled Rivers, it combines two limited vinyl 12” EPs released this year, Retina and Iris. The full album will be released as a double CD, with one EP per disc, and also represents the first opportunity to own the songs digitally.

Both EPs deal with “themes of reflection, light and water … emphasising instinct, emotional rawness and purity of expression over perfection.” The album was recorded and mixed in one week in Iceland, where the partnership of Mariam Wallentin and Andreas Welrliin were aided by Bedroom Community’s Ben Frost and Valgier Sigurdsson.

Hildur Gudnadottir, who released an incredible album for Touch last year, Without Sinking, also appears, aiding with arrangements on the Retina EP.

“This strange, empty and wet country [Iceland] was perfect for the music”, claims Mariam. “The emotions are more subtle and dark. And we wanted to somehow collect these emotions and make them into songs that are linked. Like the lyrics are linked to each other, the whole idea of the sound is very thought out and theme-based, to build up this special atmosphere.”
