The Week’s Best Videos: Troma LARPers, spooky softcore and a Colombian queenpin

Welcome to FACT’s weekly video round-up.

As we note at the end of every year, music videos have never been better. But too often, music videos — along with documentaries, live sets and interview clips — get lost in the shuffle of news and new music.

With that in mind, FACT is doing what it does for mixes, mixtapes, vinyl and more: rounding up the internet’s best videos on a weekly basis. And to remove our bias, we won’t be including our own content — you’ll have to stay tuned to FACT TV for all your Against The Clock, FACT Freestyles and Confessions needs.

Oneohtrix Point Never
‘Sticky Drama’
Dir: Jon Rafman and Daniel Lopatin

Daniel Lopatin and Jon Rafman reunite for a video in two parts. The prologue sets the scene with diehard Kaoss Edge fans, sentient flesh blobs and an RPG-gone-IRL. The proper video is all action that lives up to its ‘Sticky Drama’ title: ooze, foam and slime gurgle as (pre)teen LARPers battle in a post-apocalyptic wargame. Body horror and surreal gore abound as our protagonist protects a CD-adorned princess-hacker. Like anything 0PN, this one will take a few times to decode.

Kali Uchis
‘Ridin Round’
Dir: Kali Uchis & Felipe Holguín Caro

Kali Uchis returns to (a particularly technicolor) Colombia and runs the streets in style. As always, she’s in good clothes and fast clothes as she hangs with street bike gangs and hits a smoky club with a mysterious brief case (as DJ Dahi’s bass-heavy remix of the track plays).

Hannah Diamond
‘Hi’
Dir: Bradley&Pablo

Hannah Diamond’s “I don’t wanna be alone in my bedroom on the internet, waiting to say … hi” hook is the premise of her ‘Hi’ video. In a hot pink bedroom, HD is connected to the world via cams and chat boxes. As her social media explodes, she dreams of a VR Times Square and pop superstardom under paparazzi lights.

Sia
‘Alive’
Dir: Sia & Daniel Askill

After turning dancer Maddie Ziegler into a viral video sensation with her last triptych of videos, Sia looks to 9-year-old Japanese martial arts star Mahiro Takano as her new pint-sized stand-in. Here’s hoping Mahiro’s story continues over another few videos.

Goth Money
‘Movie’
Dir: MFK Marcy Mane

Rap collective Goth Money wile out in the desert, ghostride an SUV and make a ‘Movie’. Things are as hazy and smokey as you’d expect, and the damaged VHS snuff nods to the menacing “Taliban soldiers got clips like movies” lyric.

Tinashe feat. Chris Brown
‘Player’
Dir: Emil Nava

Tinashe turns dance routines into a video game staged in a warehouse/imaginary space (think Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions in all white). Duet partner Chris Brown shows up as the final boss.

Black Zheep DZ
‘Common’
Dir: Media Vomit & Black Zheep DZ

Black Zheep DZ makes his way through his Baltimore surroundings wearing a poignant bullet hole T-shirt, showing Bmore in kaleidoscope detail in the video for this KeitchCharles Spacebar-produced banger.

Carly Rae Jepsen
‘Your Type’
Dir: Gia Coppola

As an overnight radio DJ voiceover tells us, Carly Rae is an L.A. Cinderella: a street urchin and seedy, neon nightclub singer who becomes a pop star when she’s on stage.

Jeremih
‘Lil Freak Shawty’
Dir: Stephen Garnett

Jeremih is the king of the vampires in this softcore spookfest. This Late Night is all freak flesh, lines of coke and dominatrixes, with a white letterbox that lends it a Hype Williams feel.

Ethereal
‘Eraser’
Dir: GAHM

Ethereal and a friend chill out in purples and greens in this video for the DMT-smoking ‘Eraser’. The Awful polymath had a busy week: not only did he dazzle us with his second I Think I’m On Fire mixtape, but he also teamed with Alexandria for the ‘Games2’ video.
