The proper headshrinkers are due next on Powell’s label with two mind-bending tracks.
Currently comprised of founding member Roc Jiménez de Cisneros and Stephen Sharp, Evol have terrorised labels like Editions Mego, Entr’acte, Presto?! and more in various forms since the late 90s with minimal, bendy electronics that owe as much to geometry as they do to rave culture – see 2013’s Proper Headshrinker for proof.
Flapper That is a single track in two parts, described by the label as their most accessible material to date. The A-side “writhes and morphs with hypernatural sensuality to explore sinuous integers of an acidic waveform” while the B-side “smears the same battery tang timbre into a pulsating, viscous bass drone with brain-melting rave tones.”
The record is released on 12″ and digital formats on July 25 – if you’re feeling brave you can stream one half below.
Diagonal will also be hosting a daytime party at London’s Oval Space together with NTS and Behind That Wall on Sunday July 19, where Powell will be joined by Helm, Not Waving, The Death of Rave’s Conor Thomas and more – full details can be found here.
