Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno tear through a cover of one of Nirvana’s earliest songs.

This weekend at Brussels’ Witloof Bar, Best Coast added another cover to their repertoire. “We’ll play a Nirvana cover now. Feel free to film it,” said Cosentino Bethany Cosentino before the encore performance. Afterwards, she noted that the audience “broke the world record of being the most silent audience ever.”

‘About A Girl’, off 1989’s Bleach, is the earliest example of Kurt Cobain’s unparalleled songwriting and ear for a hook, even on Nirvana’s noisy debut. The band immortalized the song during their MTV Unplugged performance.

Best Coast’s grungy cover is faithful to the original — and markedly more reverent than Lana Del Rey’s cover of ‘Heart-shaped Box’. [via Pigeons and Planes]
