Shangaan sound architect Nozinja preps 12" for Jiaolong under Xitsonga Dance alias

Yes, we recognize how esoteric that headline is.

Richard ‘Nozinja’ Mthetwa is a major proponent of South Africa’s Shangaan sound. FACT has been writing about the frenetic dance style since 2010, and Nozinja looms large in any of the coverage.

Next up for Nozinja is a release under the alias Xitsonga Dance, the first in a series of 12″ records to be released soon on Jialong label, the imprint run by Dan Snaith (Daphni, Caribou).

Stream ‘Heke Heke / Hoza’. As expected, both songs are pure Shangaan: all hyperactive percussion, vocal blips, and electro jubilation. Xitsonga Dance will play their Cape Town live debut Cape Town Electronic Music Festival on February 16.
