Go behind the scenes on MF DOOM and Madlib’s dazzlingly creative high watermark.

You know Madvillain’s 2004 LP Madvillainy by now – one of the all-time great psychedelic hip-hop records, and many right thinking people’s pick for rap LP of the decade. With a sequel “almost done” (read: probably as far off as ever), Boom Bap Beatnik has pulled together an hour-long mix of all the samples featured on the album.

Madlib’s rarely sounded as venturesome as on Madvillainy, and it shows in the tracklisting: Sun Ra, Frank Zappa, Bill Evans, Just-Ice and Maria Bethania all feature, as do snippets from The Wild One and The Ghost Of Frankenstein. And who knew those “How do you dos?” on ‘Bistro’ came from Casablanca?

If the above presses your buttons, we’d advise checking out J.Rocc’s free collection of classic Madlib remixes, released in late 2012. Last year, DOOM also teamed up with rap-savvy pianist Robert Glasper to run through a series of Madvillainy cuts. [via Potholes In My Blog]
