Stream 'Captive Bolt Pistol', from metal pioneers Carcass's first album since 1996 Surgical Steel

Metal pioneers Carcass will return this year with a new album, Surgical Steel.

The British group, who released a slew of influential albums in the late ’80s and early ’90s (one of which, Reek of Putrefaction, featured on our recent run-down of the 100 Best Albums of the 1980s), broke up in 1995, but reunited in 2007.

Surgical Steel will be released through the Nuclear Blast label later this year, and we now have audio of a song from it, ‘Captive Bolt Pistol’. It leans further towards the group’s more melodic ’90s run than their sludgy ’80s records; you can stream it below.

Carcass are far from the only band to return this year with an unexpected new album: Boards of Canada, Pixies and more have released their first material for several years. You can read FACT’s run-down of 2013’s comebacks here.
