Since 1957, the Jodrell Bank Observatory has kept an eye on the cosmos. In more recent years, however, it’s also served as the backdrop for a host of rock and pop concerts.

The Live From Jodrell Bank concert series has previously tapped up The Flaming Lips and Elbow to play in front of the 76m Lovell telescope. On August 30, Icelandic dreamweavers Sigur Rós will be the latest to perform in this most unusual of locations. The performance will also feature projections beamed directly onto the telescope, and will be preceded by a host of specially programmed workshops and experiments at the centre earlier in the day. Tickets go on sale on January 18 – head here for more information.

That’s not all: Sigur Rós have also been confirmed as one of the headliners for this year’s Eden Sessions at Cornwall’s striking Eden Project venue. The band will be stopping by at the eco-dome on June 30. Eddie Izzard, Kaiser Chiefs and The xx are also confirmed to play the venue this summer.
