‘Anthem’

As half of the Deep Teknologi stable, T. Williams has been gifted with support from all corners of the music community, reaching the ears of Kode9 and drawing the attention of Ikonika, 2562, Sinden and more along the way.

This is unsurprising, as Williams’ first EP under this name is a real shape-shifter, gifted with the atmosphere and depth to permeate a deep house set and the syncopated skip required to sit alongside the restless rhythms of UK Funky. Williams’ arrival is all the more opportune given the particular affection for this sort of genre-hybridism at the moment.

There’s no doubt either that this EP will receive the rapturous reception it deserves – these three tracks were born and destined for the club. Simultaneously mesmerizing and energizing, the hypnotic groove of ‘Afric’ should trouble dancefloors nationwide with its crazed voodoo keys. The airy tension and hammering rhythm of ‘Flooring’ deserves to cause maelstroms with its reverb-filled minimalism, while Cooly G’s influence appears with vigour on ‘Anthem’, a storming, menacing number littered with rattling, wooden percussion.

This is the simple beauty of T. Williams’ EP. All three tracks on this excellent release have the wieldy energy and lofty swagger to be played to death in clubs, but are also gifted with enough flexibility to escape the restraint that comes with genre limitation.
