Night Slugs is six – don’t they come up fast? – and they’re celebrating with a stonking birthday bill.
Starting out as a club night in Camberwell in 2008, Night Slugs didn’t take long to blossom into a label – and what a half-decade it’s had since, launching the likes of Jam City and Lil Silva, hosting more than one classic single (Mosca’s ‘Square One’, Girl Unit’s ‘Wut’), and turning out a string of great mixes to boot.
This Friday, the Slugs will be celebrating their 6th birthday with a special show at London’s Oval Space, and the line-up’s a stunner. Label bosses Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 will have hands on tillers: anticipate juddering, future-focused club music from the pair’s respective sets. They’ll be joined by Berlin techno producer Shed, who’ll be cutting loose with an appearance under his good-time house alias Head High. Night Slugs regular and Club Rez proprietor Girl Unit is on the bill, as are footwork veteran RP Boo – easily one of the most inventive producers operating at 160bpm – and Fade To Mind feller Kingdom.
Proceedings run from 10pm until 6am; head here for tickets and further information.
