On September 4 Touch will release Mount A, a full-length album by Hildur Gudnadottir.

Originally issued as Lost In Hildurness by 12 Tónar in 2006, it was the first official solo release from Gudnadottir, who is a member of Nix Noltes and regularly performs with Múm and Pan Sonic. Her instrumental palette here includes cello (the instrument for which she is best known), gamba, zither, khuur and gamelan; recording took place in New York and a house in Hólar, Iceland, specifically chosen for its good cello acoustics. The album has been freshly mastered by Denis Blackham for Touch.

Unlike last year’s terrific Without Sinking, which featured contributions from Johann Johannsson among others, Mount A is a comprehensively solo effort, and its sound is accordingly intimate. That sense of intimacy reinforced by the cover of the Touch edition, a portrait of Gudnadottir by Jon Wozencroft; it’s something of a departure for Wozencroft, whose photography usually focuses on unpeopled landscapes.

You can listen to one of Mount A‘s tracks, ‘In Gray’, here.
