It’s far from a bold statement to claim that Snoop Dogg’s 1993 debut album, Doggystyle is one of the all-time great hip-hop albums. And it’s definitely not bold to claim that the California icon hasn’t made an album that’s touched it since.

Well, over fifteen years since the release of Doggystyle, Snoop’s announced that his next album will be a sequel – Doggystyle 2. He did this at the end of a video filmed in the studio with premier rap producer Swizz Beats (surprisingly productive for Snoop, whose Ustream sessions usually involve him rolling joints and watching television), who recently made waves with his remix of Kanye West’s ‘Power’ and will be working on Doggystyle 2.

According to Snoop, in said clip, “the album is Doggystyle 2: The Doggumentary … [Swizz] just laced my boots up for my new record. Motherfucker gave me some gangsta shit, some Crips shit, some r’n’b shit, some hip-hop shit, some hard shit, mean shit.” It’ll be eighteen tracks long, and you heard the man – features a lot of different types of shit.

So can Snoop break a decade-and-a-half plus bad streak and come out with another great record? Probably not. But God knows we’ll be among the first in line to see.
