The Horrors are contributing to the new album from Gorillaz, and Damon Albarn has mixed a new version of the London five-piece’s ‘Whole New Way’.

Talking to BBC 6Music [via Exclaim], Horrors bassist Rhys ‘Spider’ Webb revealed that Albarn contacted them after listening to their most recent album, Primary Colours.

"He got a copy of it really early, contacted us completely out of the blue and told us how much he liked it. It was kind of a strange e-mail saying, ‘Would you guys be able to come down to my studio at some point?’

"We went down to the studio and he said, ‘We’re working on the new album and we’ve not collaborated with a guitar band before and your album is one of the most exciting things I’ve heard in a long time. Would you be up for working on a track?’

"He played us a lot of tracks he’d been working on and musically they were just in a really similar place to where we were at the moment…"

As well as The Horrors, the third Gorillaz album, which is due for release in 2010 and bears the working title Plastic Beach, will also feature Daisy Age hip-hop veterans De La Soul.

The Albarn/Horrors hook-up looks set to continue; the Blur frontman has also remixed Primary Colours track ‘Whole New Way’, and this new version is likely to appear on the B-side of a forthcoming Horrors single.
