Multimedia artist Doug Aitken has called in dozens of musicians, visual artists and writers for his Station To Station tour of “nomadic happenings” this September.
Throughout the month, a train will stop at 10 locations between New York and San Francisco, and each stop will feature a site-specific happening involving a variety of artists.
Musicians signed up include formerly lo-fi auteur Ariel Pink, Dave Longstreth of the Dirty Projectors, alt.pop maximalist Dan Deacon and British post-punk revivalists Savages.
Also confirmed are Charlotte Gainsbourg, Eleanor Friedberger, Nite Jewel, No Age, Twin Shadow and Connan Mockasin.
Aitken says of the project: “This is a fast moving cultural journey, a constant search over the new horizons of our changing culture. Grounded in some basic questions — who are we? Where are we going? And, at this moment, how can we express ourselves? — our intention is to create a modern cultural manifesto.” [via Pitchfork]
