As previously reported, the inaugural Independent Label Market will set up stall in Soho, London this Saturday, 21 May.

The event will take place on Berwick Street, where the heads of each participating label will sell their products directly to customers.

“I started making mixtapes and selling them,” recalls Richard Russell, boss of XL Recordings. “I had a stall in Camden market. That’s really what a record company is, apart from the fact it’s not legal. You sort the music, get the artwork done, do the manufacturing and then sell them. That was actually the most fun, visceral way of running a record label that I’ve ever been involved in, because you talk to every single person who buys something.”

As well as XL, other notable labels taking the opportunity to sell rarities, merchandise and collectibles include Soul Jazz, Domino, R&S Records, Bella Union, Mute, Tri Angle, Peacefrog and Merok. Angular Records will be carrying the last copies of debut singles by Klaxons and These New Puritans, Heavenly will have the last ever copies of the Saint Etienne 7” box set, and Rough Trade will have an exclusive single from Alexander on sale. Perhaps most interestingly, Tri Angle Records will be hawking exclusive T-shirts and the first physical copies of its Lindsay Lohan tribute album, originally available only on digital.

Guest artists turning up to the market include Blawan, These New Puritans, Tim Key, Slow Club and Vondelpark. A list of confirmed labels and the wares they’ll be offering is below. For more information, visit independentlabelmarket.com.
