With a month to go before the festival kicks off, Berlin Atonal has expanded its line-up of cutting-edge electronic performances and one-off collaborations.

Joining the Opening Concert on August 19 is the world premiere of a project bringing together Nine Inch Nails’ Alessandro Cortini and Australian composer and Room40 boss Lawrence English, which promises to see “tonal currents emerge between passages of reductive minimalism and tectonic plates of physical distortion.”

Adding to the night, Barbara Morgenstern and her Chor der Kulturen der Welt will perfom a site specific ‘spatial sound collage’ that allows the audience to experience the features of the power plant through unamplified sound.

Sunday night’s Contort curated closing programme will be expanded with Samuel Kerridge, who premieres his new project Fatal Light Attraction, a one-off live show from Modern Love and Touchin’ Bass legends Bitstream, and WSR presenting electro-acoustic work with live instrumentation provided by Koenrad Ecker of Lumisokea.

The Kraftwerk will have a second stage this year, with James Ginzburg’s Subtext Recordings presenting Roly Porter, composer/producer John Bence, and Ellen Arkbro with a project based on just intonation modulations.

Diagonal Records have invited noise artist Russell Haswell to play live as well as Not Waving and Blood Music, while on Saturday night the same stage will see Lakker present the world premiere of a brand new audio-visual show, alongside Polar Inertia and Sergie Rezza, aka DJ Deep and Roman Poncet.

Adding to that, the festival has announced its club programme, running in Tresor, Globus and OHM, with DJ sets from Regis, Moritz von Oswald, Shifted, Sigha, Skarn, Abdulla Rashim, Peder Mannerfelt + Pår Grindvik, Willie Burns and more.

The new additions join a bill that already includes Alessandro Cortini, Ugandan Methods, and a live performance of Outside the Dream Syndicate, the 1973 collaboration between Tony Conrad and Faust.

Berlin Atonal takes place on August 19-23 at Berlin’s Kraftwerk building, with after parties taking place at Tresor, OHM and various other venues in the Kraftwerk complex. Tickets can be found at the Berlin Atonal website.
