A major roster of artists have rallied round in the wake of the tragic death of a much-loved Manchester clubland figure.

John Millett, known locally as Salford Jon, was a well-known regular on the Manchester club scene. As The Mirror report, Millett was found unconscious with severe head wounds after an apparent attack on January 24. He died in hospital six days later.

With many Manchester revellers still in mourning, a huge benefit gig has been pulled together in Millett’s honour. The 8 Gold Rings For Salford Jon will take place at The Factory on March 3, and a major line-up has been assembled for the purpose. Chief Metalhead Goldie heads the bill, and Marcus Intalex – typically seen trading as Trevino these days – will also be appearing. Genre-bending Hyperdub associate Scratcha DVA, bassline don DJ Q, Dub Phizix, Virus Syndicate and Strategy are among the other big hitters on the ticket.

Other acts include Sam Binga, Chimpo, Illaman, Fallacy, Mark XTC, Sukh Knight, Sappo, Jenna G, DRS, Stanza, Hotwire and Northbase. All will be providing their services for free, and all profits will go to supporting Millett’s daughters.
