It was a crying shame when The Books announced their indefinite hiatus earlier this year.

Across four albums, the duo ploughed a unique furrow, somewhere between the most intimate bedroom songcraft and rigorous electroacoustic collage.

Fortunately, the band’s Nick Zammuto has returned with a new four-piece band, the aptly titled Zammuto. They’ve made a track available to download, ahead of the release their self-titled debut album, due on Temporary Residence on April 3.

‘Too Late Topologize’ is a very odd beast indeed, mixing warm, slightly folkish balladry with Zammuto’s egregiously autotuned vocal and curious digital tics and bleeps. In short, exactly what you’d expect from an ex-member of The Books.

You can preorder the album here.
