You’ve heard of Groove Armada, right?
Perhaps surprisingly, the trombone-wielding duo have chosen to put out their latest material through relatively underground house label Hypercolour. Perhaps even more surprisingly, it fits like a glove. This is lithe, groovy house, steering clear of chart-friendly melodics – or melodics of any kind, really – in favour of sampled snatches of vocal and fleeting piano chords. With the exception, that is, of ‘There Was Rhythm’, a retro-leaning piano heater which would slot nicely into a set of 2012-via-1988 business. You can listen to samples of the EP, which is out on March 26, below.
