Fantastic Mr Fox has been sniffing around the post-dubstep landscape for a little while now.

The fellow born Stephen Gomberg has got tracklist love from the likes of Jamie xx and James Blake. His 2009 flip with Rich Reason came out on Hemlock in 2009, and he’s had a number of EP releases on Black Acre in the intervening years. He’s also stepped on the remix for likes of Hyetal, and released a split 12″ of R&B bootlegs with Pariah (Gomberg took on Brandy, whilst Pariah got mischievous with Erykah Badu). Abeano point us towards a new cut from the man, the brittle ‘Speak Nuh’.

Gomberg shares a sound palette with Raster-Noton, but uses those taps and bleeps in service of the dancefloor rather than the flotation chamber. After an ambient prologue, Gomberg spins a slight, tactile piece of sort-of house. ‘Speak Nuh’ is shot through with eski’s sense of exhaustion, as if the synths might conk out at any point. The label describe ‘Speak Nuh’ as a “mighty quadroid of Boom! Boom! clicketty-clackery”, which just about trumps any cockeyed description we can cook up for the track. Lovely stuff, in any case.
