Playground have nudged us towards two new tracks from NYC oddball Gary War’s forthcoming Jared’s Lot.

We’ve already heard wonky, electrified advance track ‘Superlifer’. The two new tracks, ‘Find Our Way’ and ‘Thousand Yard Stare’, show War teasing out more batshit psych-rock. The first is a piece of jangly spinning-top pop, which sounds as if it might collapse in on itself at any point. The latter, meanwhile, charts similar cosmic territory to ‘Superlifer, cranking the arpeggiator and the vocoder up into the red. Both tracks dart across time signatures, and specialise in arch and unexpected melodic turns; if War polished up his production and upped his costume budget, he’d be pegged as a prog-revivalist. As it happens, he’s producing tarnished gems for a slight but growing fan base. Long may he continue.
