DC producer Nacey keys in on the soulful edge of the London vocalist’s ‘Too Close.’

The original version of ‘Too Close’ tries (unsuccessfully) to mellow-out a wobbling, chainsaw bass line into something more befitting Alex Clare’s bluesy pipes.

Nacey is better at capturing the song’s essence. He gently bends and warps a synth melody, letting Clare’s mournful break-up song breathe. Percussion is muted, emerging at the most heart-wrenching moments, and a tasteful guitar solo plays counterpoint to Clare.

Not all remixes have been as respectful of the composition, but Nacey has shown a light touch before, like on his remix of La Roux’s ‘Bulletproof.’ Stream and download his remix of ‘Too Close’ below.
