Experimental pianist Hauschka gets a psychedelic overhaul from Patten

Anyone who enjoyed noodling about with that John Cage piano app will find plenty to admire in Salon des Amateurs, the 2011 LP from Hauschka.

As per the Düsseldorf producer’s inventive live sets, the album attempted to rehabilitate treated piano as a  tool suitable for the dancefloor. Earlier this year, FatCat issued two companion EPs to the record, featuring remixes from the likes of Ricardo Villalobos and Max Loderbauer, Michael Mayer, Steve Bicknell and Vainqueur. The label are now primed to release Salon des Amateurs Remixes, a broader collection which will collate all of the above and bung in a couple of fresh revisions for good measure.

One of the new interpretations arrives courtesy of Kaleidoscope boss Patten. Hauschka’s original version of ‘Two AM’ was a prim, romantic exercise. Filtered through Patten’s lens, it becomes a scrimmage of distorted synths and foundry percussion. Stream/download the track below [via XLR8R]

Salon des Amateurs Remixes is due on September 25 through FatCat.
