Delicate beatmaker Kelpe unveils the knock-kneed freebie 'Midsommar'

Kel McKeown’s technicolour production project has turned out a free new track.

McKeown’s breakthrough came with 2008’s Ex-Aquarium, a well-regarded set of krautrock-indebted beat sketches. Following 2009’s superior Cambio Wechsel, he’s spent the last year knocking out EPs for the likes of MYOR and, earlier this year, Svetlana Industries. The most recent, I Felt Fuzzy, got the remix EP treatment, featuring successful revisions by BNJMN and Cupp Cave.

Kelpe has now made a free new cut available for download over at Clash. ‘Midsommar’ is a cheery bit of digitally enhanced bossanova. Folks who knock McKeown’s work as being off-puttingly flimsy won’t have their minds changed, but acolytes should find plenty to get off on.
