UK funky leading lights Ill Blu have been tweaked by highly promising newcomer Thefft. 

The North London pair are set to drop their first new material since their raucous ‘Clapper’ single for Hyperdub earlier this year. The Illusions EP arrives on Madtech, and features more steroid-enhanced future funky from the duo (and a sample from The Wire to boot).

Rising producer Thefft – himself gearing up to drop the impressive Distronet EP this month – has gone to work on EP lead ‘Omar’. Whereas the original is a fairly chaotic affair, Thefft’s 4/4 reading is comparatively straight-down-the-line. Thefft’s emerging trademarks (haptic drum programming, odd organic burbles) are there, but he sounds a fair sight more aggressive than on previous outings.
