Another day, another Prince song: the acoustic ecstasy of ‘That Girl Thang’
The enigmatic artist continues to mine the outer-reaches of Princedom.
The roughly-sketched ‘That Girl Thang’ finds the Purple One exploring the highest register of his voice, armed with only an intricately-picked acoustic guitar. Unlike Prince’s recent dispatches, this one trades throwback boogie and bedroom funk for stripped down songcraft and very Princely lyrics (“Hum a little secret / People think I’m free / Instead of a fifth dimension prisoner / in ecstasy.”).
Sample the song over on Soundcloud, or grab it over at Prince’s 88-cent webstore. [via Spin]
