Anthony Naples – the man behind last year’s feted Mad Disrespect disc for Mister Saturday Night – is about to drop a fresh EP on The Trilogy Tapes.

The house whizz will follow-up January’s Moscato EP with a four-track collection for Will Bankhead’s reliably excellent label. The Trilogy Tapes have now made three-quarters of the El Portal EP available to stream over at Soundcloud, and the clips show Naples refining his strange synthesis of US Garage swing and L.I.E.S-style scruff. There are a few surprises: the title track self-immolates without warning in the closing seconds, and wonky boogie number ‘Pueblo’ is the cheeriest thing Naples has put his name to. We’re particularly enamoured with ‘Busy Signal’, a wonderfully scrappy house cut that’s about 85% hi-hat. Another strong release from an artist yet to put a foot wrong.

El Portal is due next month. Yesterday, Naples announced a label venture of his own, Proibito. The first release will arrive from Royal Crown Of Sweden, aka Opal Tapes regular Huerco S.
