Mariah Carey takes a break from American Idol to drop her best single in years.

Miguel‘s breakout LP Kaleidoscope Dream was one of last year’s finest, so it’s hardly a surprise to see the singer popping up as a guest on plenty of records this year. A duet with Mariah Carey though? That’s something we didn’t really expect, and damn ‘Beautiful’ is even better than we could have hoped for. Sporting some subtle, jazzy production that sounds more like something from Miguel’s back catalogue than Carey’s, both singers are on fine form, complementing each other’s voices with ease and a refreshing, uncharacteristic warmth.

‘Beautiful’ one of the best pop collaborations we’ve heard so far this year, and while many of you might not be jumping to hear a new track from Mariah Carey, we urge you to give it a try. [via Complex]
