NY rapper GITA combines rough and smooth on the colourful Escaping The Dream World EP

Oakland-born, NY-based rapper GITA has those two essential boxes ticked: genuine skills and fine taste.

Having shared bills with likes of A$AP Ferg and Mykki Blanco, GITA has been getting a fair amount of online heat in recent months, and debut EP Escaping The Dream World shows her turning hype into results. Escaping The Dream World has two modes: glowering, souped-up party rap, with GITA channeling Nicki Minaj’s bug-eyed flow; and the sort of lush exotica that Mr Muthafuckin eXquire flirted with on the brilliant Kismet tape. The Darq E Freaker-produced ‘Mardi Gras’ is present and correct, and standout productions from DJ TWO STACKS (including breakout track ‘Hood Rich’) give the tape some extra welly.
