“Swing when you’re winning,” as fallen national treasure Robbie Williams once advised, and winning is basically all we’ve seen in the last few years from Swing Ting, the Manchester-based operation led by Samrai, Platt and Joey B. The ocean-spanning label/party/crew has gone from strength to strength, with 2016’s spectacular run of releases – Fox’s Musik EP, Equiknoxx’s ‘Bubble’, Florentino’s ‘Bloodline’/’Sientelo’ – making them a no-brainer for FACT’s label of the year. We asked them to ring in 2017 with their own FACT mix – and holy macaroni, have they delivered.
Put together by Samrai and Platt, the mix traverses the full spectrum of Swing Ting sounds via a ridiculous number of exclusive tracks, with dancehall dubs from Equiknoxx, mutant reggaeton from Florentino, Mabiisi’s West African vocals, a collab from DJ Q and Finn, and Kingston MC Kemikal going in on Jubilee’s ‘Wine Up’. Swing Ting friends and fam contribute fresh tracks, dubs and jingles throughout – you’ll want to tuck into the tracklist below.
Samrai told us: “Quite a few things we’re finally letting out for ears on this! New one with Jamaican artist Blvk H3ro recorded in Kingston last year (at Equiknoxx studios) and two unheard remixes. The rest of the selection is largely unreleased/exclusive music.
