Stream Maria Minerva's Will Happiness Find Me? for Not Not Fun in full

Estonian-born, London-based chanteuse Maria Minerva is back with another album of arch avant-pop.

Since 2010’s cluttered/cerebral Talinn At Dawn tape, Minerva has established herself as one of DIY pop’s most interesting and thoughtful practitioners. Following on from her ‘Sacred & Profane Love’ 12″ for 100% Silk (not to mention a low-key collaboration with Ajukaja on Porridge Bullet), she’s returning to longtime base Not Not Fun with a new full-length, now streaming over at Stereogum.

For all the familiar lo-fi tics, Will Happiness Find Me definitely sounds like a liminal record. At points, it’s the Minerva we know and love: ‘Fire’ sees her reverting to the same druggy, koanlike idiom she made her own on 2011’s Cabaret Cixous. Elsewhere, as on the tinny Grimes knock-off ‘The Sound’, she darts off in entirely unprecedented directions. An adventurous twist in her burgeoning career, then, and one you can judge the success of in full here.

Will Happiness Find Me is out now. You can listen to Minerva’s enchanting 2011 FACT mix here.
