If hip-hop’s brightest luminaries were to form their own Cabinet, Danny Brown would be foreign secretary.

There’s something of the diplomat in Brown’s determination to gladhand fellow musicians regardless of style or geography. Since his breakthrough last year, he’s dabbled in gully grime, breaksgeezer-friendly melodrama, and, reportedly, Australian psychedelic pop.

The latest in Brown’s Mr. Benn-style adventures sees him teaming up with Montreal neo-darkwavers Purity Ring. ‘Belispeak II’, taken from the band’s impressive Shrines LP, has been tricked out with a new Brown verse. The Detroit rapper keeps the wisecracks to a minimum, running through childhood struggles (“No silver spoon/I was raised a rusty shovel”) and exposing his vulnerable side. [via Complex]
