19m+ people have bought Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours in the US. Looks like Julia Holter is one of them.

The L.A. singer-songwriter has hit some big milestones this year: she nimbly dodged the sophomore slump with Ekstasis, and ended the year being snapped up by Domino for a new album in 2013 (not to mention a stocking-filler Ekstasis reissue). Holter’s now taken on a classic from newly reconvened rock institution Fleetwood Mac, ‘Gold Dust Woman’

The track was upped on Holter’s Facebook page, captioned with the word “oops”. It’s a sophisticated reading, counterpointed by a twinkling drone and some wonderfully portentous piano work. Holter’s vocals, meanwhile, are just lovely.

The track is taken from MOJO’s latest covers LP, which features a host of artists covering tracks from the Mac’s 1977 classic LP. Yeasayer, The Besnard Lakes and Liars (whose take on ‘The Chain’ is available below) also feature. It’s not the first Fleetwood Mac tribute record to do the rounds this year: Antony and Washed Out took a crack at the Mac on a compilation back in summer. [via Gorilla vs. Bear]
