UK Funky pioneer Champion returns on April 27 with this typically percussive new 12″ for his own Formula Records.

While he might be just about to drop a collaborative 12″ on Hyperdub with grime God Terror Danjah, this double header is a great way to get yourself accustomed with the Champion sound in the meantime.

‘Hydra Sound’ is a relentless slice of funky goodness with all the usual components in check; congas, ear-pummeling (yet oddly soothing) bass and a groove that will practically push you onto the dancefloor. It might not rewire Champion’s formula at all, but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, and plenty of us have been waiting for this one to drop after hearing it in countless sets. The flip however takes a different route, working with what sounds like a classic Prince Jammy bassline (we’re guessing this is where the title came from) and peppering those unmistakable funky snares on top.
