If anyone predicted that snakes would play such a big role in dance music in 2010, then fair play to them. LV’s new single ‘Boomslang’ features a guy shouting “SNAKE!”. Untold’s ‘Anaconda’’s been revived and re-released as a tribal guarachero anthem, on a label called SSSSSS. Szare’s ‘Snake Cave’ is pretty much the best thing going.

Baobinga’s tracks actually sound like snakes, so by rights he should be huge now. It’s all in the way they move; they’re quick, but most of the movement’s side to side, rather than direct. They have these beady melodies that flicker like snake’s tongues, and leave an echo behind them as they bury through the undergrowth or whatever. ‘I Get Ruff’, his collaboration with Cosmin TRG from this year that should have been massive, saw the snake get bigger, and ‘This One’s Wavey’ with Scratcha DVA sees it start to floss, with Middle Eastern melodies, rattling bells, and these amazing skyway synths.

‘N.S.G’ on the other side is all good, it’s more of a grime track with the synths at the forefront, but it could probably do with sounding more like a snake. Get with the times lads.
