Post-rock overlords Tortoise have announced a collaboration with Colin Newman for BBC Radio 3.

Newman is best known for being frontman of post-punk legends Wire. He’ll be spending a day in the BBC’s Maida Vale studio recording a session with John McEntire’s band, and will be broadcast subsequently on the Late Junction show.

On August 31 Tortoise will be releasing a highy limited 12" featuring remixes of tracks from their recent Beacons of Ancestorship LP. Eye, leader of Japanese psychedelicists Boredoms, takes on ‘High Class Slim Came Floatin’ In’, while Mark Ernestus – Moritz Von Oswald’s partner in Basic Channel, Maurizio and Rhythm & Sound – delivers a dub version of ‘Gigantes’. The catch? As far as we can tell it’ll only be available at Tortoise’s show at London’s Relentless Garage on August 25th. On the plus side, they’re pretty good live…
