Friendly Fires have mixed the latest entry in Bugged Out!‘s Suck My Deck compilation series.

It’s a natural move for the band – St Albans-hailing Ed McFarlane, Edd Gibson and Jack Savidge – whose interest in dance music is deep-seated. Savidge in particular is an avid DJ, and McFarlane has released tracks on IDM label Skam and Hooj Joons offshoot Precinct.

Their Suck My Deck mix is rooted in house and disco, and includes an exclusive collaboration between Friendly Fires and Toronto house outfit Azari & III. Also featured are productions from Tensnake, Munk, Bot’Ox, Aeroplane, Joe Goddard’s 2 Bears and Tom Trago; while the focus is predominantly on recent material, there are several classic cuts thrown in for good measure, among them Egyptian Lover’s immortal electro jam ‘Freak-A-Holic’, Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus’s deep house tearjerker ‘New Day’ and George Kranz’s rollercoasting Balearic oddity ‘Din Daa Daa’.

“It’s more of a party compilation than anything, but there’s lots of variation too,” says Savidge. “Music for the dancefloor isn’t as one dimensional as it’s often painted. There’s a lot of dance music that’s thoughtful and sad. We wanted to combine that with some of the more banging stuff that’s elsewhere in the mix.”
