We know we bang on about the good old days of grime a lot, but few tracks capture the genre’s vintage quite like ‘Ghetto Kyote’.
An instrumental classic from 2005, it was produced by Treble Clef, but released under the name Kamikaze, the crew Clef was in at the time. As wistful and cold as the best Ruff Sqwad and Wiley productions, it became a grime cipher favourite, vocalled by Kano, Demon, Tinie Tempah, Crazy Titch, Devlin and more, and remixed several times over.
In the words of Elijah, one half of the Butterz team with Skilliam, “this will probably be the only reissue I do, it’s one of my top three favourite grime tracks. It doesnt sound like something we wouldn’t do if it was made last week either really. Like Butterz, but five years too early.”
You can expect to see ‘Ghetto Kyote’ hitting your shops again in March, though as with the recent ‘Wooooo Riddim’ release, Butterz will presumably be selling the early copies direct. On the B-side of the 12″ you’ll find an edit of the original, also by Treble Clef; you can stream it below:
