New York duo Light Asylum will release their self-titled debut album in May.

The duo of Shannon Funchess and Bruno Coviello have been picking up hype for the best part of a year and a half, Funchess collaborating with Teengirl Fantasy on their breathtaking 2010 single ‘Dancing in Slow Motion’, while also working with Telepathe, Ford & Lopatin, TV on the Radio and more.

If the press release for Light Asylum is anything to go by, the album will take cues from the bad intentions of recent single ‘Skull Fuct’ – it’s described as “an uncompromising, rugged mixture of coldwave, EBM and electro-industrial structured through pop of the toughest sensibilities … part introverted, aggressive vehicles, part bright, jubilant fanfares – passages of carefully devised harmony and melody bloom between stabs of driving keyboards and drum machines.”

Mexican Summer will release Light Asylum on May 1; you can stream the first single from it, ‘Shallow Tears’ b/w ‘Genesis’, below.
