Younger listeners may well only know Brandy’s work in eviscerated form.

Perhaps more than anyone other late 1990s chanteuse, she’s been a go-to for producers looking to cut/screw/twist/mangle half-forgotten R&B vocal tracks in more contemporary contexts. Blawan went to town on her on 2011’s ‘Getting Me Down’, and she was memorably deconstructed on DJ Q’s ‘Brandy And Coke’ earlier this year. She also makes a notable appearance in Simon Reynolds’ typically excellent guide to UKG/r’n’b crossover moments.

As HipHopDX report, the singer now has a new album on the way. Brandy’s sixth LP will be called Two Eleven, a reference to her birthday (not to mention the day Whitney Houston died). The record is expected to arrive on August 28, and will feature production from Frank Ocean, Timbaland and Darkchild. The record is also likely to feature ‘It All Belongs To Me’, her recent reunion with Monica (something which will mean a lot to readers of a certain vintage).
