American experimentalist and sometime Sonic Youth member Jim O’Rourke will release the latest in his Old News series of archive cuts.

The eighth in the series, Old News Vol. 8 will be released as a double-vinyl album on Editions Mego, three quarters of which is dedicated to remastered material from ‘Mere’, a three-part piece that made up one half of O’Rourke’s 1992 album Disengage. The fourth cut present here is an 18-minute piece titled ‘Merely’, from 1991 (when ‘Mere’, we believe, was also recorded – presumably the two are linked).

As ever with the Old News series, this will be interesting to O’Rourke obsessives, but casual O’Rourke fans will probably wait until the next album of new material to part with their cash – 2010’s The Visitor remains a stunner.
