Gary Glitter arrested in connection with Savile probe

According to the AP, police arrested former glam rocker and convicted sex offender Gary Glitter on suspicion of sex offenses on Sunday.

The arrest was made in connection with Scotland Yard’s investigation of former BBC DJ Jimmy Savile’s alleged sexual abuse of minors.

Glitter, aka Paul Gadd, is the first person to be arrested in connection with the Savile case. He was released on bail until mid-December after being questioned.

Glitter gained fame in the 70s with rock hits like arena anthem ‘Rock and Roll, Part Two,’ but is infamous for his arrest record: he was jailed in Britain in 1999 for possessing child pornography, convicted in 2006 in Vietnam of committing “obscene acts with children,” and deported back to Britain in 2008.

The AP reports that “one witness recently told a BBC-TV show that she once saw Glitter having sex with a schoolgirl in Savile’s dressing room,” but that Glitter has denied the allegations.
