Back in May, rap hero Lil B pulled off a curious A&R move: signing his tabby cat Keke to his label.

After months of intensive backroom work and artistic training, the mog in question has now unveiled her debut track. The apparently nameless cut popped up on Lil B’s YouTube channel yesterday, headed “KeKe The Adopted Tabby Cat MAKES HISTORY! FIRST ANIMAL IN HIP HOP! FEAT LIL B !!!”.

It’s a disorientating offering, featuring a chaotic (and presumably self-produced) instrumental that sounds like a swamp monster freestyling over an 808. Keke’s flow, meanwhile, is pretty limited – you get a purr here, a meow there, and the occasional yelp. Based God, meanwhile, plays hype man, coaxing and encouraging his four-legged charge.

Lil B offered a short footnote to the track (the capitals, obviously, are his): “PRODUCED BY LIL B! THIS IS AMAZIING!!! HOW WAS THIS DONE? KEKE THE ADOPTED TABBY CAT, SOME CALL HER KEKE THE BASED CAT HAS MADE HISTORY! WITH HER PROUD FRIEND LIL B, THEY BOTH ARE EXTREMLY HAPPY TO SPREAD LOVE WITH HUMANS AND ANIMALS TOGETHER, KEKE HAS WAITED A LONG TIME AND SAID THERE IS MORE COMING SOON MABY, LETS TAKE OUR TIME, TODAY ITS THANK YOU BASEDGOD FIRST, THEN THANK YOU LIL B…NOW THANK YOU KEKE – Lil B”

For all its flagrant zaniness, the track is further testament to Lil B’s dazzling singularity – as per the bizarre Choices And Flowers, it shows the rapper tilting away from hip-hop in favour of baked psychedelic outsider art. [via Pitchfork]
