Classic 1982 Alternative Tentacles hardcore compilation to get 30th anniversary reissue

A vintage US hardcore compilation, assembled in association with Dead Kennedys’ Jello Biafra, is to get a 30th anniversary reissue.

Back in 1982, Not So Quiet On The Western Front saw the light of day on Biafra’s then nascent Alternative Tentacles label. Curated by rock writer Jeff Bale, amongst others, the album offered an expansive survey of the burgeoning hardcore scene in California and Nevada. As the label boast, the album offer “47 bands in 74 minutes!”: Dead Kennedys, 7 Seconds, Flipper and a host of other bands (Tongue Avulsion, anyone?) all contribute short, sharp transmissions from the West Coast.

The collection hasn’t been available since 1999, when Alternative Tentacles teamed up with Bale’s Sonic Reducer Records to reissue the disc. To celebrate the album’s pearl anniversary, the collection is getting a welcome vinyl re-release.

As Exclaim report, Alternative Tentacles will reissue the album in full on 2xLP and CD next month. As per the 1999 release, the album will feature a 48 page newsprint booklet (included as the CD booklet on the CD version). A free download code is also bundled with the set.

Not So Quiet On The Western Front will drop on January 22. The formidable tracklisting is below, and is worth the price of admission alone.
