Iggy Pop and The Stooges finish recording new album, Ready to Die

The punk legends ready the follow-up to 2007’s The Weirdness.

According to Hitfix (via CoS), engineer Ed Cherney just finished mixing the album, which is entitled Ready to Die (alas, it does not appear to be an album of Biggie covers).

Cherney says of the album, “It’s old-time Stooges. It’s raw. They’re great songs, but not necessarily big choruses. They’re the anti-christ of anthems.” Cherney promises “very timely” lyrics, evidenced by song titles like ‘I Got A Job But It Don’t Pay Shit’ and ‘Gun’.

Stooges guitar player James Williamson returns to the fold, marking the first Stooges album he’s worked on since 1973’s seminal Raw Power; he also produced the album. No word on the release date yet, but Iggy appears on the Johnny Depp-curated Son of Rogue’s Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys, due out February 19.
