James Holden announces new album The Inheritors; download the first track inside

Dance music dreamer James Holden will release his second album, The Inheritors, on June 17.

It seems remarkable that someone as well-established as Holden has only released one album to date, 2006’s The Idiots are Winning, but it’s not as if he rests on his laurels: Holden’s Border Community label has released albums by Nathan Fake, Luke Abbott and more, while the man himself has mixed for the DJ-Kicks series and released multiple singles and remixes.

A press release for The Inheritors describes it as an attempt to look beyond the “sharp, painfully literal nature of modern digital music”, seeking “a surfeit of fuzziness: the chaos machines making infinite fractal depths of natural detail in everything, the timing dictated by what [Holden] felt in the moment rather than the grids of a sequencer”. Elgar and the KLF are cited as major influences on the record.

You can download the first single from the record, ‘Gone Feral’, below. It will be released on April 8, packaged with DJ tool versions.
