MGMT announce self-titled third album, accompanied by "unique visual elements" from The Optimiser

Psyche tag-team MGMT have announced full details of their third album.

Simply titled MGMT, it follows 2010’s difficult Congratulations and will be released on September 27 through Columbia. Recorded with producer Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev), it was apparently whittled down from a process that involved “several improvisational jams that would last for hours” [via CoS], and was recorded simply as a duo, as opposed to Congratulations‘ legion of session musicians. In January, Fridmann claimed that the album was influenced by Aphex Twin and house music.

MGMT will come packaged with something called The Optimiser, which a press release describes as “unique visual elements to accompany and illustrate the new music, which “provides listeners of the album with a simultaneous aural and optical listening experience featuring video and CGI work.”

Those of you who caught MGMT’s Record Store day single ‘Alien Days’ [below], that opens the album.

Tracklist:
01. Alien Days
02. Cool Song No 2
03. Mystery Disease
04. Introspection
05. Your Life Is a Lie
06. A Good Sadness
07. Astro-Mancy
08. I Love You to Death
09. Plenty Of Girls in the Sea
10. An Orphan of Fortune
