The cloudy R&B lover signs with the Black Hippies.

This has been in the pipeline for some time, but today New Jersey singer SZA confirmed that she has signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, the record label that’s home to Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q, aka the Black Hippy crew. The move comes after the release of two SZA EPs, S and See.SZA.Run.

Presumably not coincidentally, the singer born Solana Rowe also dropped a couple of new tracks today, the WondaGurl-produced ‘Teen Spirit’, wittily tagged as ‘glitter trap’ and ‘not R&B’, and the bouncy ’80s vibe of ‘Julia’, produced by Felix Snow and Dave Free. Hear them below.

Earlier this year FACT’s Chris Kelly caught up with SZA to find out more about her cloud rap inspiration and her one-take approach in the studio.
