Operating under shadowy alias The Stranger, James Leyland Kirby (aka The Caretaker) is back.

Watching Dead Empires in Decay follows 2008’s Bleaklow, and finds Kirby re-located to a brand new home on the Modern Love imprint. Thankfully by the sounds of things, his winning combination of brittle, spacious rhythms and ear damaging noise hasn’t been dented by the move.

Reported to contain “unsettling Lynchian soundscapes” and “moments of intense beauty,” we can assume that it’s going to be business as usual from the really quite reliable Kirby, and to our mind any collision of the mischievous clamor of V/VM (Kirby’s prankster noise project) and the moody ambience of his work under The Caretaker moniker is definitely going to be worthy our attention.

UPDATE: Take a listen to the Boards of Canada-influenced ‘Where Are Our Monsters Now, Where Are Our Friends?’ below.

Watching Dead Empires in Decay will be released on October 28 via Modern Love
