Disillusioned by <i>Resident Advisor</i>'s top 100 DJs? Rinse FM's Alexander Nut has made his own

It’s list season in music world, and today saw the arrival of one of dance music’s most controversial lists, Resident Advisor‘s fan-voted 100 Best DJs.

In amongst the usual weepy comments about Ibiza, Real Techno and Not-Deep-Enough House – usually by people that didn’t even vote in the thing – came a smart response by Rinse FM’s Alexander Nut, one of London’s most reliably illuminating DJs.

“I don’t really know who half of these guys are”, Nut claims “and I don’t listen to trance or gabba or Euro rave so half the list ain’t really my kinda thing, and I didn’t even know Adrian Mole spun records. But there’s loads of great DJs who I think should be getting props, but there ain’t a list to represent them. So I put a little something together myself.”

“It’s not really a ‘list’ as such, cus I ain’t going Asda, naa mean”, he continues. “But all of these people I find very inspirational in the disc spinnin’ department, particularly in 2013. When I’m enjoying a Dj set the things that are important to me are 1. Selection, 2. Style, 3. Skill, 4. Originality. Chinese whispers and celebrity status are not attributes we shall entertain.”

Check Nut’s list here, which includes past FACT mixers like Kyle Hall, Kutmah and Mark Pritchard. And speaking of lists, make sure to check out FACT’s 50 best albums of 2013 here.
